One of my favorite things about the seasons changing is that you get to incorporate new styles into your wardrobe and try different silhouettes to mix things up. Yes, I know grabbing your favorite pair of denim is always an easy transitional style and a sure fire way to get that laid-back effortless vibe, without compromising comfort. But, what if I told you that you could achieve that same laid-back vibe, and even look a bit more elevated? Introducing the relaxed fit trouser, which is one of my favorite pieces for fall. It’s an easy breezy silhouette to take you from summer to fall in a second. You may notice this look from one of my NYFW outfits on Instagram this past week and for me, it was all about the trouser this season. I incorporated the trouser, with varying silhouettes, in a few of my looks last week, but there was just something about this particular look that I loved. Maybe it was because these trousers gave a more street style vibe, rather than a smart and tailored feel. It’s safe to say that I can’t get enough of this combo and each piece on its own. There are so many ways to wear each one, but this look has to be my favorite way to style them both.Liv Micheli sitting in SoHo wearing OFF WHITE c/o Virgil Abloh x Warby Parker Medium sunglasses, Urban Outfitters Roll neck Cropped Sweater, Silence + NoiseRelaxed-Fit trousers and Kenneth Cole boots.Liv Micheli standing in the streets of SoHo wearing OFF WHITE c/o Virgil Abloh x Warby Parker Medium sunglasses, Urban Outfitters Roll Kneck Cropped Sweater, Silence + Noise Relaxed-Fit trousers and Kenneth Cole boots.Liv Micheli standing in the streets of SoHo wearing OFF WHITE c/o Virgil Abloh x Warby Parker Medium sunglasses, Urban Outfitters Roll neck Cropped Sweater, Silence + Noise Relaxed-Fit trousers and Kenneth Cole boots.

So let’s talk relaxed-fitting trousers, shall we? When shopping for a relaxed silhouette, I look for a few key features. Firstly, I look for a high-rise construction, as this will help to make this silhouette the most flattering. A high-waist helps to accentuate the smallest part of your waist, and create the appearance of longer legs, which who doesn’t want? Secondly, I look for relaxed trousers that fit through the hip and then down to a slightly tapered ankle. This will help to give you more of a shape, rather than looking like you’re 1). Pear-shaped and 2). wearing your grandpa’s oversized trousers, which we don’t want (sorry grandpa). This oversized, relaxed fitting bottom trend was all over NYFW and one of the staple model off duty looks.

I recommend styling a relaxed fitting bottom with something that is cropped, to help show off the high waisted fit, and again, the smallest part of your waist. You can also wear a fitted white t-shirt or cropped white LS shirt tucked in, to show off your figure a bit more. It is important to compliment a baggier silhouette with either something that is a little more fitted or even play on the baggy silhouette with something that is cropped and slightly more loose fitting. Try out different silhouettes and find a style that helps compliment the trouser rather than fight against it…in other words, let the pants be the main focal point of the look. For me, I wanted to show off a bit of midriff, but also play on the baggier vibes. I incorporated this roll-neck cropped sweater that had a more fitted waist and a bigger statement sleeve. This was such a cute transitional find that I’ve been wearing with high-waisted denim, trousers, and skirts. I hope I encouraged you to try out this relaxed silhouette!
