If I were to describe my dress code in one word, it would be feminine. Regardless of season or location, I always gravitate towards more feminine pieces. Whether I am getting ready for a special night out or creating a relaxed day look, my outfits will always feature a delicate touch, like a soft color or a ladylike silhouette. One style that I’ve recently been obsessing over and that comes back into the rotation this time of year are shorts. This summer, if I’m not wearing a floral dress or ruffled skirt, you’ll most likely find me in a pair of sophisticated shorts. They are the sister to my favorite clothing items and always make for the next best option. With the official start of summer quickly approaching, in less than two days, I wanted to share a short story. If you’re a short lover like myself and are looking for a refined and versatile style, let me introduce you to the shorts you’ll live in this season. These paper bag shorts are easily my favorite piece from the Club Monaco summer collection, not only because they are in the prettiest shade of blue, but also for their ultra-flattering paper-bag silhouette that I am making a part of my summer uniform.
Blue has always been my favorite color, and I remember being so drawn to the light and fresh powder blue pieces from the CM collection. What I love most about these paper bag shorts is their versatility and how easy they are to style. These shorts are what I like to call “the perfect warm weather alternative to a dress.” They’re high-waisted, flattering, comfortable and come in a variety of colors like pink, green striped or black.
When it comes to summer dressing, I love pieces that I can wear during the day into the night. This baby blue pairing works perfectly for both. I find the high waisted short to be an easy piece to dress up or down in the summer. I love wearing these shorts with a white tee and cute slides for an extra simple laid back look. For work, I would recommend wearing a simple blue or white button down (I live in both of those shirts during the summertime) and a pair of sweet sandals for an ensemble that is summer chic, yet appropriate for the office. For today, I dressed up these shorts with a light linen blue sweater, neutral espadrilles and a fun straw bag for a breezy summer night out on the town. The front tie and scrunched waistline details on these shorts give them a hint of polish and playfulness.

I’m all for mixing blue with blue, especially when you pair a lighter shade of the color with a slightly darker one. The powder blue shade of these shorts could not have worked more harmoniously with the pale blue linen sweater, creating a look that feels like summer to me.
